On Tuesday, April 29, the first National Drill 2025 took place in Mexico City, where authorities implemented alerts via notifications on cell phones and smartwatches. Myriam Urzúa, Secretary of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection, supervised the test of the Cell Broadcast system, following previous failed attempts that generated complaints from citizens for not receiving alerts.
On this occasion, the system issued the message: 'Presidential Alert 2025-04-29 11:30 Earthquake Drill.' Some users reported on social media that they did not receive the notification, although there was no widespread consensus on who did receive it. There were mixed opinions on the sound of the alert, described by some as 'horrible,' but its importance in warning the population about perceptible or risky earthquakes is emphasized.
Regarding the preparations for the National Drill 2025 in Mexico City, on Tuesday morning, Civil Protection of Mexico City carried out a simulation rescue of potential victims in case of a structural collapse. One of the scenarios was located on Paseo de la Reforma avenue, while another was set up on Juárez avenue, in front of Bellas Artes.
